2021 Run Walk Wheel: CHEER - Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How does the virtual Run Walk Wheel: CHEER work?

A: Good question! You can run, walk, or wheel (or any other forms of movement) from any location you choose -  the sidewalk, on the trail, on the treadmill, in your backyard, wherever works for you! Simply select a registration option that works for your goals and budget, pick a distance, and complete the registration. During July 10 - 18, print off your bib, and get ready to crush goals! You will run, walk, wheel your distance at your own pace, and let us know when you’ve completed it so we can celebrate together and track our teamwork KM’s! We’ll send out LOTS of information and encouragement before, during, and after via email.

Q: How do I measure my distance? What if I don’t have a GPS?

A: If you have a smart, wearable watch, use that to measure your distance. If you don’t try one of these options:

1 - Plan your route ahead of time using Google Maps or Map My Run. It’ll measure the distance for you!

2 - Estimate! We’re all about participation, so try using telephone poles in your neighbourhood. Most telephone poles are 38m apart. If you cover the length of 26 telephone poles, you’re almost at 1km! OR use our special equation, found below!

Note - we will not be asking participants to send ‘proof’ of their activity and KM’s. Participants will use a form to self-report the total # of KM’s they’ve done. You can submit daily OR submit all at once!

Q: Do I have to be/get outside to be physically active and track KM’s?

A: We encourage our participants to move and track KM’s in whatever way is comfortable, accessible and fun to you! Our number one priority is participation. A general rule of thumb you can use to log kilometers is 1 hour of low intensity activity = 5 km. 30 min = 2.5 km. This can be done indoors, outdoors, in a facility, in a body of water - whatever way works best for you!

Q: Do I have to participate every day of the event?

A: No. You do not have to run, walk, or wheel every day. The virtual event spans 2 weekends to give everyone the best possible chance to work it into their schedules. As long as you complete your distance and let us know about it between July 10- 18th, you’ll be added to the team total. If you register for the Ultimate Fan Summer Camp, exclusive to girls ages 8 - 14, you or the participant will have access to 5 sessions with REAL (Relatable, Empowered, Active Leaders) Role Models, our curriculum, physical activity sessions, and Fast and Female swag!

Q: How will it be tracked, where do I put in my time, and how will I see it?

A: This is a non-competitive event, so we’re not too worried about your time. It’s all about getting active, connecting as a community, and showing the girls they GOT THIS! During July 10 - 18, we’ll start tracking KM’s as participants complete their distances (we’ll set up a place where you can share your final distance and rad photos too). We’ll keep everyone updated on how we’re doing as a team and if we’ll hit our goal of 15000km!

A: This virtual event is for EVERYONE! CHEER & Fanatic ticket registration is open to individuals of all ages, ability levels, gender and geographic location. We’d love to see any and everyone get involved. If you’re a girl aged 8 -16, our key messages and giveaways will be geared toward you, but registration and participation is open to everyone. We’d love to see everyone in the community out supporting girls in sports! Run for a girl in your life to show her, YOU GOT THIS!

The Ultimate Fan ticket type, which includes a 5-session virtual program, is for girls between the ages of 8 - 16.

Q: Do I have to fundraise for this event?

A: Run Walk Wheel: CHEER has a free registration option for all participants and fundraising is not mandatory. If you are able to support Fast and Female programming, we suggest a donation of $10-15 for free registrations (you can donate here). If you’re interested in raising awareness and fundraising for Fast and Female, we suggest setting up your very own Giving Group, setting a fundraising goal and going for it! Click here for info on how to set that up. You may also choose to pay-it-forward by purchasing a extra ticket for the Super Fan Girls-Only Summer Camp. This will allow us to provide a girl with a free ticket to our virtual summer camp.

Q: Can I participate if I’m not in Canada?

A: YES! Anyone can participate by registering. However, we are unable to ship items outside of Canada so we suggest choosing a ticket option that does not have shipped items.

Q: Do I have to have a social media account to follow this?

A: No. We will send information emails to the account you use to register. Most of our REAL  Role Model connections and contests will take place on Instagram, so we suggest checking in and following along. @FastandFemale The official hashtag is #RunWalkWheel, you can share your action photos with us by including this hashtag.

Q: Can I pick which colour t-shirt will I get?

A: Unfortunately, no. We are a very small but mighty team and do not have capacity to manage requests for specific colours. The great news is that ALL of the shirts are fantastic, so it’ll be a fun surprise when the mail arrives :)

Q: Are there subsidized ticket options for the Girls Programming “Ultimate Fan Summer Camp” ticket type?

A: YES! We want to make Fast and Female as accessible as we can. Click here to request a subsidized ticket or e-mail us at gestrada@fastandfemale.com

Q: What if I miss the registration deadline?

A: Our different ticket options have different deadlines, to best accommodate the logistics and needs of our team and our participants:

  • For the paid tickets (Fanatic and Ultimate Fan), to ensure you receive your swag prior to the event date, you must register by June 25.

  • The Ultimate Fan Summer Camp (Girls Programming) registration deadline is July 5th.

  • The Cheer and Fanatic registration deadline is July 18th. Fast and Female is excited to keep registration open for the Cheer and Fanatic tickets to allow for last-minute participation and support in our collective 15,000 km goal!
