SIOBHAN ROURKE (she/her)

Program Coordinator

I am one of the Program Coordinators here at F&F and I’m responsible for supporting the REAL Role Model (RRM) and Youth Advisory Council (YAC) programs as well as the development and delivery of other new and existing Fast and Female programs and events. When I’m not working with F&F, I am a PhD Candidate at the University of Ottawa, where I work with coaches to develop more gender responsive coaching practices, to help keep girls happy and healthy in sport! My passion for advancing women’s sport is well aligned with Fast and Female’s mission and I’m working everyday to make this research more accessible to all!

Your favourite sport/ physical activity

I’ve never been one to pick and choose sports, I’ve tried everything! In high school and university I played rugby and rowed but now as an adult I’m a big fan of moving my body outside in different ways! You can usually find me out for a long run, hiking, lifting weights at the gym, or goofing off on the pickleball court with my friends. Physical activity is a huge part of my life and you will never see me turn down the opportunity to play!

Your favourite post-workout snack

Let’s be real… I usually want a treat after a workout and I’ll gravitate towards any kind of pastry… an almond croissant has to be my favourite though!

Your favourite pump-up song

Ain’t Got Far To Go by Jess Glynne (for use when you need a boost!)

What advice would you give your 12 year old self?

There’s a big, huge world out there for you to explore. Don’t be afraid to say yes (and no when needed) because at the end of the day you’re going to achieve big things and you have an amazing support network behind you. Comparing yourself to others only makes YOU feel worse. Focus on what and who you love and block out everything else (Yes, those negative thoughts included! Nobody cares if you have a big pimple on your chin!!)

Who is your role model and why?

I am constantly inspired everyday by the women inside and outside of my network and I am so lucky to be surrounded by such amazing role models. If I had to highlight one I would have to say my mum. I aspire to lead my life with as much kindness, compassion and passion for helping others as she does. It can so hard in this digital age to make meaningful connections with people and she does it with ease and pizzazz!

How did you first get involved with Fast and Female? Tell your story!

I saw an ad that F&F was looking for an event coordinator for SDTGW in Ottawa in Fall 2023. I was lucky enough to get the job and work with the team on that event. Afterwards, I was hooked! I looked for every opportunity to work with the org again and luckily enough in December 2023 they were looking to hire a Program Coordinator to oversee the RRM and YAC programs and I couldn’t think of anything I wanted to do more. I’ve only been with the org full time for a few months but already have had the chance to plan and participate in many exciting events and programs and I can’t wait to see where we go from here!
