Fast and Female Works with Girl Guides of Canada, Ontario Council to Deliver The Great Guiding Trek
Fast and Female is thrilled to be working with Girl Guides of Canada, Ontario Council to deliver an exciting and empowering program this Spring called The Great Guiding Trek!
To get girls moving across Ontario and Nunavut in various ways, The Great Guiding Trek is a fantastic opportunity for Guiding friends to come together and complete a series of activities to achieve a collective goal.
We want to take this opportunity to thank Girl Guides of Canada, Ontario Council for collaborating with us on this exciting program and for recognizing the importance of physical activity among girls.
What is The Great Guiding Trek?
The Great Guiding Trek is a six-week program (April 13 – May 25) that aims to inspire and empower Guiding friends ages 5-17 in Ontario and Nunavut through movement and physical activity.
Over six weeks, participants are sent a newsletter each week full of fun activities to try out and complete. Each activity accumulates kilometres, which are then submitted online.
Each participant is encouraged to collect and submit as many kilometres as they can to reach the objective goal of 30,519 kilometres. This goal represents the Girl Guides’ membership in Ontario and Nunavut, highlighting the power of unity and collaboration.
This year, registration for the Great Guiding Trek closed with an astounding 2,390 Girl Guides participants! Registrants not only got to partake in this comprehensive program but also received some cool swag – including a limited edition bammie for the first 1,000 people to sign up.
Engaging Activities
This year’s theme, Moving Together, takes physical activity to a new level! Participants will have the opportunity to do activities they enjoy or try something completely new. Whether it’s walking, running, cycling, or any other form of movement – every kilometre counts!
So, it’s time to get out there and get moving! This year, we’ve planned an array of activities that girls of all ability levels can participate in and have fun doing!
We’ve also enlisted some help from our REAL (relatable, empowered, active leader) Role Models with additional digital content for our participants, including making pump-up and physical activity videos that are shared in our weekly emails. From stretching, meditation, and line-dancing, these videos help get Guiding friends engaged and energized.
Every week, we also put participants’ cleverness to the test as we share a new riddle for participants to solve and submit. Winners from the riddle submissions are contacted by Fast and Female’s program team to receive special prizes!
How Do Participants Keep Track of Progress?
With lots to do, participants can easily keep track of their kilometres and activities with the support of the digital kit.
What’s Inside The Digital Kit?
The digital kit is a resource where participants can find recommended activities for a specific week, additional tips and tricks on how to collect kilometres, and other fun goodies including an active passport.
How Does The Active Passport Work?
The active passport can be downloaded and printed and helps participants document activities in a fun way! For example, there are activity and wellness bingo spots units can complete together or individually. Additionally, participants can have fun with a word search, scavenger hunt, mad libs, match games, and make their own trading cards. The active passport can also help convert other activities into kilometres.
Other Items in The Digital Kit
Runners can wear their participation in The Great Guiding Trek boldly with the printable active bib. Participants can also fill in a range of colouring sheets and worksheets available in the digital kit.
