Women’s Only Running Program: Built To Run
By Rebecca Saldanha, BTR Run Lead and Program Coordinator at Fast and Female
In partnership with local Scarborough organization, Girls and Women in Motion (GWIM), Fast and Female is providing a 6-week running program leading up to Scarborough’s Very Own 5K, called Built to Run (BTR). The program just passed the halfway mark! This couch to 5k program strives to create a brave space and sense of community for women runners, of all levels, in the Greater Toronto Area.
This amazing group of 20+ women have been meeting weekly and taking up space together. “It’s a great place to meet like-minded women and keep moving in a group setting. As a runner, it’s an awesome feeling to get out there with others who really enjoy the sport!,” says BTR Run Lead and Staff Member, Alejandra Estrada (Ali). She is joined by GWIM representative, Sagarika Endley and myself. We have many seasoned runners from within the area joining us who have been looking for a sense of community in their sport.
So far the BTR team has been spending time getting to know the women, their abilities and inspirations for joining the program. We are working to slowly prepare the group for the upcoming 5km, through running tips, tricks and group motivation. Check out the BTR Spotify Playlist to get pumped for your next run.
The message behind the group is clear: It doesn’t matter where you’re at in your movement journey… whether you’re a seasoned runner or new to the sport… YOU were Built to Run, and YOU belong here!
