Joud and Annie – U of T KPE Placement Students

Fast and Female is thrilled to welcome Joud Dabous and Anne-Marie Dones to our team through the University of Toronto’s Bachelor of Kinesiology (BKin) In-Field Learning program! The program is a 7-month placement opportunity for students in their Fall and Winter Semester, giving them 100 – 120 hours worth of practical experiences in the workforce and sector.

BKin In-Field Learning helps you put theory into practice by working alongside and learning from some of the very best in the field. Available for third, fourth and fifth-year students, these In-Field Learning opportunities occur as a part of elective upper year courses where you develop skills through job shadowing, and assisting with day-to-day workplace activities under the supervision of a mentor.

Let’s get to know more about Joud and Annie!

Joud Dabous (she/her)

  • Year of Study: 3
  • Field of study: Kinesiology

What prompted your interest in studying kinesiology?

Since the tenth grade, I started getting into running – ever since, I have had a weird interest in running shoes, especially Nike vapour flies. I was especially interested in the ergonomics and biomechanics behind the shoe – which prompted my interest in studying kinesiology. My interest in both art and sports science motivated me to pursue a future career in sports marketing.

What are your future goals, and what do you hope to achieve with your undergraduate degree?

In the future, I hope to work with major sports brands to allow me to pursue kinesiology through a creative lens. I want to specifically work in the field of marketing and graphic design.

Why did you choose to work with Fast and Female as part of your placement?

I wanted to gain experience in the health promotion and marketing aspect of kinesiology. Working with Fast and Female would allow me to enhance my graphic design skills through working on Canva and Photoshop to create social media posts and adverts to post online.

Anne-Marie (Annie) Dones (she/her)

  • Year of Study: 4
  • Field of study: Kinesiology

What prompted your interest in studying kinesiology?:

I’ve always been a massive fan of the NBA. And so when players would get injured, I’d be curious about the injury mechanics and their recovery process. It was during this time that I discovered my desire to delve into anatomy and biomechanics, leading me to choose kinesiology.

What are your future goals, and what do you hope to achieve with your undergraduate degree?

One of my future goals is to pursue post-undergrad education in the field of rehab sciences. With all the cool stuff I’ve learned during my undergrad, I want to share it with my family and friends and show them why physical education is so important. Plus, I’d love to be a voice for those who don’t have the same opportunities or have to deal with unfair treatment regarding sports and being active.

Why did you choose to work with Fast and Female as part of your placement?

I was eager to gather more professional experience in the field of Kinesiology and Physical Education. Then, I came across F&F, and their mission resonated with me. I wanted to be a part of something that could make a difference in the lives of young women and I believed F&F was a perfect fit for me.
