MARCH RECAP: INTERATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY, TORONTO FC, AND MORE!

March was quite A MONTH! From International Women’s Day to a Toronto FC collaboration, an event in North Battleford Saskatchewan, celebrating incredible women role models across the country and more, we are thrilled to share with our community our March recap:

Play Today, Lead Tomorrow – March

Fast and Female was thrilled to launch our March campaign, Play Today, Lead Tomorrow! Our campaign focused on celebrating the incredible women role models in sport. The campaign included: 1) a fundraising/donation page to support our Role Model Program and Youth Programming; 2) a digital campaign highlighting 20 women role models in sport across Canada; and 3) co-hosting two sweaty fundraisers at Sweat Society TO in Toronto, ON for women age 18+. Huge thanks to all the incredible role models, donors, event attendees and our community at large for making the campaign a success!

Changing the Game through School Sport: A Preliminary Cross-Sectoral Conversation March 1

We were thrilled to be invited to attend OPHEA and MLSE Launchpad‘s Changing the Game through School Sport: A Preliminary Cross-Sectoral Conversation event on March 1. Leaders from across the sport and recreation sector and staff from Ontario schools were brought together to listen, learn, and discuss the role of school sport. Executive Director, Gaby Estrada, had a chance to catch up with former Board of Directors member and former Chair of our Anti-Racism and Respect Advisory Committee, Debbie King! Thank you to OPHEA and MLSE Launchpad for having us be a part of such an important conversation.

North Battleford Power Hour – March 8

Fast and Female was back in Saskatchewan for the second time this year for our North Battleford Power Hour! The event brought together 34 grade 10 girls over their lunch period to participate in physical activity, meet Role Models, and go through our Empower Her Body Confidence curriculum. Thank you to River West District for Sport, Culture & Recreation for making this possible! Check out the photos from the event by clicking here.

Toronto FC x Fast and Female – March 23 Game

On March 23, Fast and Female in partnership with Girls & Women in Motion were invited to attend the Toronto FC game and bring an on-field experience to 25 girls in honour of International Women’s Day and celebrating women in sports! The participants were split into two groups: flag bearers and bench warmers. All participants had a chance to access the field early, go on field, watch the players warm up, and a few even received high-fives! 12 participants held the Canadian Flag and American Flag during the national anthem, and all participants stayed and watch Toronto FC hold a 2-0 win over Atlanta United. Thank you so much to TFC for having us! Check out our Instagram reel recap here and photos from the event here.

Toronto FC x MLSE Launchpad x Fast and Female – March 25

To continue celebrations with Toronto FC, Fast and Female brought a group of 50 girls to the MLSE Launchpad on March 25 for their EmpowHER event. The evening included a scavenger hunt, group activities of cookie decorating, soccer skills, and a workshop, followed by a panel of women sport leaders across MLSE and TFC. Thank you so much to TFC and MLSE Launchpad for having us!
